Very, Very Hard To Watch, But Should Not Be Missed

I just saw this video at The Deacon's Bench and at A Concord Pastor Comments. It is not a church video.

Wow. I had a hard time getting up the nerve to watch it. It is very, very graphic and I don't think you can watch it and be unmoved in some way. I felt nauseous and I cried.

Divided attention is a malady of our time and it impacts our practical lives and our souls as well.

This is a very startlingly clear view of what can happen. And it is not just kids either. I am guilty of looking down at my phone more than I care to admit.

  1. In Australia you can be booked for using your phone while driving. The fine is large and your licence could be suspended. I am always very nervous if I see a driver near me using a phone. On the very few occasions my phone has rung while driving I have either pulled over where possible or ignored it.

  2. Illegal here too, although interestingly it seems to be a British film.

  3. There was a terrible case in our city a year or so ago....a car with young people (ca 20) in it off the road, all dead.

The driver's phone sent a text message simultaneous with the time of the crash.

  4. Made by a Welsh police department. Saw a story about this on the CBS News last night.

This should be required viewing in EVERY high school classrrom starting, like, right now.

Two folks to whom I was close died in car crashes since this spring, and the year isn't over yet. I hold my breath every time my son goes out now.

Be careful out there. And turn off your damn phone.

  5. Yes, I saw portions of it on the TODAY show --enough for me.

Glad to say I don't have a cell phone.... but that's another story.

Thank you for posting it Fran.

  6. I drive back and forth to Austin from San Antonio at least a few times a month.
Each and every time someone is clogging up the fast lane or drifting into the next lane, when I pass them I see they are on the damn phone.
I am all about personal freedom unless it fucks with my personal safety. Using a cell phone while driving should be illegal.
Texting while driving is even worse.
I know you sometimes call me from the road and I love it when you do, but in my mind's eye you are on a hands-free set and not endangering yourself or others.
If that's not the case, please lie to me and say it is.
    ;)

  7. Luckily, I live in the middle of the city, where I'm able to get around without driving--haven't done it for years--because I'm too easily distracted. My father lost his only brother to a drunken driver and as far as I can see, people who drive while reading emails, punching in phone numbers, shaving, or putting on mascara are no different. It's irresponsibly dangerous--to them and others.

    I'm just saying...
